Well, I finished my 2nd set of 5 pages of First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY) quite easily today! That was a GREAT start. And, I was also able to finish chapter 3 of BRS Pathology (Board Review Series). For me, it was a very heavy chapter of General Pathology. Nonetheless, I got 12 of the 14 review questions for the chapter correct! Not too bad, God willing.

Well, I finished Chapter 2 of BRS Pathology (Board Review Series) and got 7 correct out of the 9 review questions. This chapter was heavy and slow. But, I already know everything about inflammation. Nonetheless, some new material has been added to BRS Pathology (Board Review Series) in this chapter as far as the latest edition is concerned. This seems like a very good book to review from and the organization and presentation of the 3rd edition is MUCH better than the previous editions that I have seen. I do understand why this book gets an A- review from First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY) as a review source for Pathology.

I’ve also started a new thing from today. I’ve decided to do 5 pages per day of the review material in First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY). I figure, with consistent effort, I should be able to grasp some valuable input from the MUST have book in my preparations by the time I get to writing the USMLE’s, God willing. So, set 1 of my 5 pages from First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY) has been done.

I also came across this link which I recommend everyone take the moment to look at, or even better, print out and look at it(learn from the failures of others):

Basically, the guy gives your something to think about. And it has certainly helped to motivate me for today! And, I’ve decided, at the least, I’m gonna’ finish at least one chapter of some text or another per day. If I get more than one chapter completed in a day, then I’ve done more than my basic goal. I wanna’ just keep a simple goal; One chapter per day. Nothing more than that. And, if I can do more, then it’s a better than expected day. But, by at least keeping a minimum goal, it should help me from getting stagnant and not moving anywhere, God willing. I hope this motivates some of y’all. I hope this approach works for me, too. We’ll only know once I get my results.

Oh, and I was checking out the resources for registering for the USMLE’s. I came across this for Foreign Medical Graduates(Registration with the ECFMG):

https://secure2.ecfmg.org/requestinstructions.asp

Fill out the form NOW! It takes the ECFMG board upto 7 days to get back to you with a ‘magic’ number, without which you can’t even think about registering for the USMLE’s… As I discover additional requirements and errata for this USMLE Step 1 process, I’ll share ‘em with y’all, God willing.

Well, began pathology today. Chapter one of BRS Pathology (Board Review Series) has been incredibly easy. But, I again went terribly slow. I just can’t get down to reading this stuff. I don’t know why. What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I stay motivated??? OH MAN! Well, I nearly got all 14 of the review questions correct; I made 1 silly mistake! It seems like these review questions are little too easy, though. Overall, this book has been improved GREATLY! It’s easier to read, yet, I’m still going painstakingly slow. I don’t think the problem is the book. I’m pretty sure it’s me.

Finally finished chapter 6 of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series). Boy has then been a painful and harrowing experience! I still haven’t finished Unit 2 of this book!!! But, I can’t continue this any longer! I’m gonna’ put Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) down to a break and gonna’ start pathology. I was supposed to start studying pathology 4 days ago, too! Man, I need to buck up! Well, the bookFirst Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY) recommended for pathology is BRS Pathology (Board Review Series).

Spent the day STRUGGLING to read the third chapter of four in Unit 2 of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series). I’ve taken a bit more time on this, because I spent much of the day at wikipedia.org teaching myself organic chemistry. I actually made it into Med school and into final year without ever having learned organic chemistry at all. So, I spent many hours just clicking on wikipedia.org amongst the articles on organic chemistry – like the topics – organic chemistry, functional groups, hydroxyl group, carboxyl group, carbonyl, methyl, ethane, ethanyle, amine, ammonia, benzene, phenyl, etc, and trying to absorb the whole meaning and essence of everything. Well, it now helps to know exactly what it means when I read decarboxylated, for example. This has been a fascinating study, indeed. And I hope it’ll help me absorb more as I continue to study for my USMLE’s. I think this was an essential step to make. And, I’m sure to keep opening up wikipedia.org and clicking around in order to help make concrete the links formed in my mind regarding the meaning of all these terms from organic chemistry. It’s an essential part to do well on these exams, I would think, in my opinion. It helps to explain the natures of drugs, receptors, reactions, etc… But, didn’t finish that third chapter of unit two of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) yet!!! I’m just doing this whole thing very half-ass…

Again, I didn’t come close to completing my intended plan. Though, I did get closer than before, but cheated. I substituted another chapter of BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) in place of my intended Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series). So, I finished 2 chapters of Behavioral Science Chapters and 1 chapter of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) only. I got all the end of chapter study questions correct in Pharmac and 9/11 and 10/21 correct from the Behavioral Science chapters, respectively. This last chapter of Behavioral Science wasn’t as easy as the previous chapters have been and chapter 4 of BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) has been earmarked to be reviewed again at a later date. Well, so much for goals! Tomorrow’s the LAST day I’ve got to try and accomplish my big plan of 1 chapter Pharmac, 1 chapter Behavioral Science, 1 chapter Pharmac, 1 chapter Physiology, and finally 1 chapter Pharmac. God willing, I will do it.

Well, I did not come close to the plan I had made yesterday. I will try again to complete the same plan tomorrow, God willing. I have to do it at least ONCE! I’m about to head to sleep, because sleep IS important. What did I do, then? Well, I finished I dragged 1 really simple chapter of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) for three and a half hours! I got all 4 end of chapter study questions right, too. Then I did a real quick workout from http://www.CrossFit.com which took me approx. 25 minutes. I concluded with a 45 minutes reading of BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series), including answering the end of chapter review questions which took only 10 minutes to answer and review(I got 12 right out of 15 questions). Well, BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) is a VERY INTERESTING book for sure!

I didn’t get down to any work the whole day. Ended up waking late, earlier, too… Well, it’s 11 pm already, and so I’ve decided to declare this failed day of studying a Break Day, God willing. Well, look forward to start again, bright and early tomorrow morning, God willing. What was the plan? 1 chapter Pharmac, 1 chapter Behavioral Science, 1 chapter Pharmac, 1 chapter Physiology, and finally 1 chapter Pharmac again. I hope to finish this plan tomorrow, God willing. I MUST!
