Chapter 3(1/5 chapters from Unit 2) of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) took me 45 minutes to read and to answer and review the end of chapter study questions. It was everything I have already read from Chapters 1 & 2 of BRS Physiology (Board Review Series). But, surely reading this was a good way to ensure a firm grasp of those important concepts. God willing. Well, tomorrow, I want to implement the following plan, if possible, God willing: 1 chapter Pharmac, 1 chapter Behavioral Science, 1 chapter Pharmac, 1 chapter Phsyiology, 1 chapter Pharmacology. I doubt I’d be able to get even close to completing that plan. Nonetheless it exists and I will try and implement it. Till tomorrow, Good night and God Bless.

Well, it took me just 30 minutes to read the first chapter of BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series). It was incredibly interesting and required very little effort to read. The questions at the end of the chapter and reviewing the answers took me only 15 more minutes! I got 13 out of 16 of the review questions correct, by the way. That’s not too bad considering this is my first exposure to the subject. I think Behavioral Science will continue to be a good filler for when I get bored reading the same ole’ dull stuff. Oh cool, this book is 26 chapters. It looks dense, but, considering how smoothly the first chapter went, I can expect to fly through this book comfortably, God willing.

After the 30 minute read, I repeated the same ole’ 20 minute run I had done yesterday. When I was done with that little break and dinner, I finished off the questions from the chapter in 15 minutes. Well, I’m gonna’ hit Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) again. Chapter 3/Unit 2, here I come! I’m gonna’ be looking at the basis of the Autonomic Nervous System. And, the remaining 4 chapters of Unit 2 are gonna’ get into some detail on the drugs that affect the Autonomic Nervous System.

Just finished the second chapter\first unit of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series). It took me 30 minutes more than the expected hour to finish. I got all three of the review questions correct, too.

All right, now I’m gonna’ do a switchover to Behavioral Science for a single chapter and then I’ll switch back to Pharmac. The book I’ll be reading for Behavioral Science is BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series). I’ll let you know how it goes.

Well, after a good 6 hours of reading, I was finally able to finish reading chapter 1 of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series). Of course, I already knew everything that was written there, but, I still went very slow! I don’t know how, either??? I’m a bit embarrassed to write this post even! The chapter was on pharmacokinetics. And, here’s even more embarrassing stuff – At the end of the chapter, I only got 6 of the 8 review questions correct! STUPID MISTAKES they were. Well, after making those mistakes, I started looking at the questions a little bit more carefully and got the last 5 questions of the set correct. Is the latest edition of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) worth it? Yes, I believe it is. Information is explained more thoroughly, they’ve added color to highlight diagrams, and the review questions are a bit more tricky(kinda’ like what I’m expecting in the boards). I hope I can focus in more than what I have been doing. Well, I hope to finish Unit 1 of this book tomorrow very quickly! Chapter 2 of Unit 1 looks like a very small chapter and should take ONLY an hour to finish.

On a side note, I started exercising today. This is to go hand in hand with my preparations for the USMLE. Gotta’ be in good physical shape in order to keep the mind working in tip top condition. I went on a simple 20 minute run in these new shoes I got – The ASICS® Men’s Gel Kayano 13. They were wonderful to run in. It made the whole experience truly revolutionary – Lightweight and Comfortable. Follow this link and check out their reviews: ASICS® Men’s Gel Kayano 13.

I woke up late. Oh well. Well, today, I begin a new subject and a new book. The book I will be using is one that is recommended in First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY). The First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY) recommends Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) for Pharmacology. By the way, this is the 3rd Edition. As I run through the book, I’ll let you know if there are any significant improvements that necessitates getting the 3rd edition. In my past experiences, this is a fun book that allows you to just read and absorb with minimal effort. I hope the same can be said of the latest edition. As far as I remember, the questions at the end of the chapters are few and require less time to do, so I intend on completing them in order to declare a chapter as complete. Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) has 42 chapters!!! ICKES! Well, here goes.

Just finished Chapter 2/7 of BRS Physiology (Board Review Series). Tomorrow is a whole new day, where I start with Pharmacology. I will have to slip in some Physiology over the next few weeks in order to play catch up for my lack of work over the past 4 days. I hope I will. At the same time, I will begin a few pages of Behavioral Science on a daily basis, God willing, since this is not a subject that I’ve had to take formally in my Medical School in India(MBBS). Though, much of the topics are covered in a subject over there known as Preventive and Social Medicine(PSM), as well as in Psychiatry.

Again, the physiology book that’s recommended by everyone for the Step 1:

I’ve been going bloody slow. Just dilly dallying, in fact. Warming up to the serious work I’ve gotta’ do, really. Just spent the past several days ordering required resources for my preparations – Well, indirectly required resources, that is… Yeah, I’m talking about exercise equipment. I just picked up a Suunto t4 Heart Rate Monitor Watch to get my heart and circulatory system into the best shape possible. Ya’ must realize that your physical condition will have an effect on your mental condition. I like the coach concept in this watch. I think it should help me keep moving at the best pace, God willing. Hopefully, I can have the coaching effect cross over into my USMLE preparations, too. The Suunto t4 Heart Rate Monitor Watch is a Heart Rate Monitor, now recommended by a soon to be Doctor, God willing… ;)

Ok, as for work, what have I done thus far over the last for days. I’ve NEARLY finished Chapter 2 of BRS Physiology (Board Review Series). It is the MUST HAVE book. There are 7 chapters. It has taken me the past 4 days to NEARLY complete the first 2 chapters. But, this rate is ludicrous. I’m just reading and am not answering the questions at the end of the chapters; The questions are nutrient dense and I’m not ready for them yet. I will, God willing, be moving faster soon. You’ve gotta’ realize, I just spent the past 2 days researching online various exercise equipment to get. Which, I’ll introduce to y’all as they come in by mail, God willing. Well, this book is Highly recommended. It’s recommended in The unnofficial official guide for the USMLE’S, First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (FIRST AID FOR THE USMLE- STEP 1 ONLY). If ANYONE is thinking of giving the Step One, this is a MUST HAVE book.

Allright, here’s some eye candy to look at and to click on:

This is my first post.  Well, let’s see…  An introduction, I believe, serves well at this moment.  Well, I’ve just begun official preparations to give my United States Medical Licensing Exams – Step 1(USMLE – Step 1).  I thought I’d put this blog up so that others who follow down this path may review my process and possibly take it forth.  I’m gonna’ blog as necessary to keep this real, so that people will know what I’ve gone through to get the score that eventually, I’m going to get.  God willing, I will do well.  Comments are always welcome!
