Day 12

Spent the day STRUGGLING to read the third chapter of four in Unit 2 of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series). I’ve taken a bit more time on this, because I spent much of the day at wikipedia.org teaching myself organic chemistry. I actually made it into Med school and into final year without ever having learned organic chemistry at all. So, I spent many hours just clicking on wikipedia.org amongst the articles on organic chemistry – like the topics – organic chemistry, functional groups, hydroxyl group, carboxyl group, carbonyl, methyl, ethane, ethanyle, amine, ammonia, benzene, phenyl, etc, and trying to absorb the whole meaning and essence of everything. Well, it now helps to know exactly what it means when I read decarboxylated, for example. This has been a fascinating study, indeed. And I hope it’ll help me absorb more as I continue to study for my USMLE’s. I think this was an essential step to make. And, I’m sure to keep opening up wikipedia.org and clicking around in order to help make concrete the links formed in my mind regarding the meaning of all these terms from organic chemistry. It’s an essential part to do well on these exams, I would think, in my opinion. It helps to explain the natures of drugs, receptors, reactions, etc… But, didn’t finish that third chapter of unit two of Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology (Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews Series) yet!!! I’m just doing this whole thing very half-ass…
